The History of the Bunny Cult
Last updated 13th Jan 1996

This is a list of the events that have happened to the bunny cult while on the net (for those of you that are anyway interested).

In the beginning (Pre Dec 95)
Well prior to this date the bunny cult has had numerous advertising plugs, but not for it's actual homepage. This being why the homepages exist today is quite simply from all the mail received asking where was the pages. The advertisements took place by a massive search for as many guest books as Simon O'Doherty could find and stick an ASCII bunny on along with a link to Simon's page. To date there are around 40+ guest books hit.

Prelude (Dec 95)
Simon had the ideas for setting up the page but needed to create a more live image of the cult. While thinking of this problem and checking out pages, Simon came a cross one on IOL made by their user group which, was in effect a santas grotto for web users. By clicking on the present you got a random program/game with which to play with. This had Simon thinking, "hmm, how can I nick this idea?". Well 20 minutes later with a quick modified copy of the page and direct links to their trendy Graphics Simon had a Grotto infested with Buns, the elves tied up and a new lucky bag with which to pick your prize. Needless to no one bothered to Download the link which said "The whole Internet". Had they of done they may of actually gotten the joke. What really topped this was the side story of the attempt to free the elves that ensued in the Newsgroups, for those of you that missed this or don't have an account with IOL check out the Elf Files (To date this story is still going on so this may be updated from time to time). Sadly the grotto page is no more.

The Birth (Jan 96)
Well just about. The pages still weren't ready so the actual Overview of the Cult came on-line first and managed to rack up 30 hits before the main pages came on. A special thanks goes to Melanie (Research) and Primal (Artwork) and later Debbie (Research assistant). :)

Elf Spam (Jan/Feb 96)
In his attempt to exact revenge for the kidnapping and his failed attempt to secure Hunk of the Month for a second term, Elf Derek decided to tell most of the members what he thought of the Bunny cult as well as putting his rants on the guest book.

The cult that cares (Feb 96)
The Bunny Cult starts it's own advice column. This actually took a lot of time to set up, partly technical reasons but mainly because no one could decide on a name. Strangely enough the original Bette gave exceptional advice, and we hope to continue this tradition. :)

The cult goes VR (Feb 96)
In order to jump on the Net bandwagon Simon created a VRML rabbit using Caligari Fountain which I strongly recommend you get to view it (for some reason WebFX looks terrible with it).

Trust us we know where we are going (Feb 96)
In order to spruce up the links page a little, Simon added a couple of graphical links to the recommended sites (based on content).

The first award (March 95)
The BC pages are constantly being nominated for various net awards (It should at least get one for the most persistent). Well the first one was the Micheal Betz's Bunny Award for best web page. I guess you should check out the page to see why we won.

The Big Internet Easter Egg Hunt (April 96)
For the whole month of April the Bunny Cult took part in one of the Great Easter Egg Hunts on the internet. The objective was to search for the correct easter egg that would whisk you away to the next site. The starting place for the hunt is at Cory's egghunt page and is still around.

The Cult is handed over (Jan 1997)
I stopped to check e-mail between my wedding and honeymoon to learn I had been offered to become webmaster for the Bunny Cult. I'd like to think it had to do with my rabbit homepage but you never know. In any case, I've graciously accepted and maintain the site you see today. I have many plans in store including an animated random bunny-site and an I-can-relate-that-to-rabbits contest, so stay tuned!
